Our Favorite Love Dilemmas

LuvemOrleavem birthdayThe big news this week is that on May 19 LuvemOrLeavem officially celebrated its one year birthday.  The blog actually launched a little after the main site, but since this is a virtual celebration I am rolling it all together.  Of course first I want to thank you for being here.  Whether you are a long time reader or first time visitor I’m glad to have you here (unless you’re that spammer trying to fill my comment box with Viagra ads.)

The great thing about the internet is that we get visitors from all over the world, but the bad part is that you are all too scattered to celebrate with cake and a live party.  That said, I am commemorating this milestone by posting a recap of some of the most popular dilemmas that have appeared on LuvemOrLeavem over the past year, along with my own little commentary.  Oh, and I’m posting a photo of a cake which is kind of lame but low in calories.

There’s Another Man- In this dilemma, a married woman fell in love with another man and asked readers if she should leave her husband for the other man or stay for the sake of her child.  Most readers felt that she should try to work things out, and the most heartfelt advice came from a woman who had lost custody of her child in a divorce.  The final vote was that 81% thought that the woman should Luv her husband while 19% thought that she should leave him.  This dilemma was one that made me wonder how voting would be affected if photos of the men could be posted.  I still believe that voters would have voted in favor of the husband, but if the other man looked like George Clooney would that gap have been smaller?  You decide.

He Hates My Heels- In this dilemma, the boyfriend of a true shoe lover wants her to give up wearing heels because they make her taller than him.  For any men reading this, the large number of comments and the overwhelming 90% who voted Leavem, should be a good indication that you may be declaring war when you try to come between a woman and her love of shoes.  The best advice came from a woman who summed it up like this “sometime heels are the difference between looking fine and looking frumpy.”  I can’t argue with logic like that.

Wants Me To Be a Stay at Home Mom- A woman who had been telling her husband since before they got married that she always planned on working outside the home is shocked when he tells her he wants her to be a stay at home mom as they begin serious discussions on when to have kids.  Everyone agreed that they needed to work this out before having a baby, but most voters thought that they could work it out with 86% voting Luvem.  The most innovative advice came from a woman who thought that they should look into what it would entail for the husband to stay home with a baby.  She believed this would either be an eye opener for him or the solution to their problem.

Always Splitting the Check- Even before the economy became a huge conversation topic, women were posting all kinds of relationship problems that were related to money.  One of our favorites was one where a woman with a better job than her boyfriend had set the stage for always splitting the check by splitting the bill with him on their very first date.  Our favorite advice came from a woman with this no nonsense phrase “don’t even mention the word ‘Dutch’ on a first date unless you’re from the Netherlands.”  I guess it’s no surprise that this one earned a 98% for Leavem.

So there are some of our favorite dilemmas.  Of course you can always click on read dilemmas to read and vote on current love dilemmas.  It’s too bad that we didn’t get this posted yesterday on our actual birthday since the randomness of these dilemmas would have been perfect for all you bloggers who participate in Random Tuesday.  Thanks for helping make our first year a great one!

Hi there. I enjoyed the article very much even though I am over 50 years old and am happily married. The part about always splitting the bill gave me pause. Some information: The tradition of the man always paying for a “date” out came back before it was common for the woman to work outside the home, so that she had no means of paying. Now that we are in the 21st century, many women do make more money than men. I find it unfair that a woman would automatically assume that it is the man’s place to pay. If he insists, then fine, let him. In my humble opinion, the woman should offer to pay as often as the man, assuming that she is gainfully employed. Thank you for your very interesting blog, I truly enjoy stopping by and reading your posts.:)

It’s my first time here and I’m just curious, are you giving advice based on percentages of what other people think? Is it the idea that the majority can’t be wrong?

Hey Amy. Absolutely the majority can be wrong, although I am pretty partial to thinking that my users give pretty advice based on justhow much is revealed in each love dilemma. Usually I just let the users vote and comment and I don’t give my two cents (although I usually have a strong opinion on almost everything I read). You bring up a good point about my general take being in line with how the majority voted, maybe next time I do a post like this I’ll have to search out ones where I don’t agree to give it some variety. Thanks for visiting.

  11. Happy Birthday! And may I say that you have only improved in the last year.

  12. HI, thanks for visiting my blog. I am sooo glad I am taller than my wife cos she always wears heels. But, even if I was shorter than her, I would not expect her to not wear heels, specially if I knew how much she loves to wear them.
    Great blog.
    Colin.
